The holidays are here, so get out your wish lists, wrap up the gifts and spread some holiday cheer. (No Scrooges or Grinches allowed!) That includes giving voice to your pet’s wishes. So in the spirit of the season, here are our wishes for your pets — and all the world’s dogs and cats.
We wish that…
Every pet would find a loving forever home.
Human family members would look past breed, age, chronic disease or “bad hair days” to love pets for who they are. Cats would have a warm lap to sleep on, plenty of high perches and always-clean litter boxes. Dogs would have all the belly rubs and chew toys their hearts desired. Abandonment, abuse, fear and lack of shelter and food would disappear from memory. Whether naughty or nice, every pet deserves a friend whose love never ends.
Every cat and dog would get the veterinary care they need to stay healthy.
Wellness visits would become the norm for dogs and cats. Every pet owner would understand the value of preventive care. They would also appreciate the role that veterinarians play in their pets’ lives. Veterinary professionals do so much more than give shots and treat sick pets. They teach us how to care for our furry friends with nutrition advice and answers to pet food questions. They share our worries when our pets are sick and our joys when we have new four-legged family members. While a lifetime of free veterinary care is unrealistic, we can still dream. (After all, this is a wish list!)
Every pet would receive complete, balanced and wholesome nutrition.
All dogs and cats deserve wholesome food made from high-quality ingredients. And pet owners need pet food that’s affordably priced. That’s our raison d’être.
No pet should ever go hungry. But the reality is that some pets do. Thousands of community food pantries, local pet food pantries and food banks need donations for those who are struggling financially. No donation is too small to help keep pets in their homes.
At the same time, no pet should be fed to the point of obesity. Too much food, too many treats and too little activity has resulted in a pet obesity epidemic. Sadly, overweight pets are at risk for serious health conditions and shorter life spans.
As the new year approaches, we promise to keep making safe and nutritious dog and cat foods. We also pledge to provide information about pet nutrition, health and care so you can keep your furry friends healthy and happy.
In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. We hope that you, your pet and your family and friends spend lots of quality time together.
